5th Grade
In 5th grade, students prepare for middle school by strengthening their academic skills, independence, and confidence. Using the California Common Core State Standards, students read and analyze complex texts, use evidence to support their ideas, and write well-developed informational, opinion, and narrative pieces. In math, students deepen their understanding of fractions, decimals, multi-digit operations, volume, measurement, and geometry while solving real-world problems. Students also investigate science topics and explore U.S. history and civics while developing critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. Throughout the year, students set goals, reflect on their progress, persevere through challenges, and take greater ownership of their learning.
