Nurse

As a School Nurse, my objective is to strengthen and facilitate the education of the students by assuring the health status and addressing health-related barriers to learning. As part of the multidisciplinary team, I address the health of the students. My duties include health assessment and intervention; communicable disease and illness exclusion and readmission; health education of student, staff and parents (e.g. growth and development, blood-borne pathogen); performance of mandated screenings (e.g. vision, hearing, dental screenings); emergency care and transport for injured students; first aid and disaster readiness; verification and follow-up with immunizations; administration and assistance with medication at school; performance of specialized skilled care and supervision of care for students with special health needs such as diabetes, severe allergies, spina bifida, asthma, seizures and cardiac condition; health counseling and referrals; child abuse reporting; suicide risk assessment; participation in IEP and special education related services; electronic documentation of health records; and, notification of teachers of students with special needs in their classroom. I also train and supervise unlicensed staff to provide specialized physical health care tasks.
